Burrito calories: GYG vs Zambrero burritos and bowls
A GYG Grilled Chicken Burrito is 3,240 kJ (774 calories) with 48.3g protein. Zambrero's regular Classic Burrito with grilled chicken is almost the same energy at 3,250 kJ (776 calories) but has 35.5g protein, and that's before sauce. Getting a bowl instead of a burrito saves 112 to 115 calories at GYG. Every figure here is from the chain's own Australian nutrition guide.
GYG: burrito or bowl, by filling
GYG's standard burrito and burrito bowl, mild, with each of the seven fillings. The bowl drops the tortilla but comes with more rice (140 g against 90 g in a burrito), so the saving is smaller than you might expect. For protein per kJ, grilled chicken and shredded beef brisket lead.
| Filling | Burrito | Bowl | Bowl saves |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grilled chicken | 3,240 kJ (774 cal, 48.3g protein) | 2,760 kJ (660 cal, 43.8g protein) | 480 kJ |
| Pulled pork | 3,180 kJ (760 cal, 42.1g protein) | 2,700 kJ (645 cal, 37.6g protein) | 480 kJ |
| Shredded beef brisket | 3,370 kJ (805 cal, 48.5g protein) | 2,900 kJ (693 cal, 44g protein) | 470 kJ |
| Ground beef | 3,470 kJ (829 cal, 36.7g protein) | 2,990 kJ (715 cal, 32.2g protein) | 480 kJ |
| BBQ beef rib | 3,800 kJ (908 cal, 48.8g protein) | 3,330 kJ (796 cal, 44.3g protein) | 470 kJ |
| Sautéed veg with guac | 3,380 kJ (808 cal, 24g protein) | 2,900 kJ (693 cal, 19.5g protein) | 480 kJ |
| Pulled shiitake mushroom | 3,760 kJ (899 cal, 32.3g protein) | 3,290 kJ (786 cal, 27.8g protein) | 470 kJ |
Size changes it more than filling does. With grilled chicken, a mini burrito is 1,900 kJ (454 calories, 26.5g protein) and a California burrito is 4,040 kJ (966 calories).

Sauce and extras
At Zambrero, sauce is where the hidden kJ are. On a regular burrito or bowl:
| Zambrero sauce | kJ | Cal |
|---|---|---|
| Basilo | 426 | 102 |
| Chipotle | 412 | 98 |
| Garlic | 370 | 89 |
| Verde | 129 | 31 |
| Secret BBQ | 129 | 30 |
| Red Chilli | 118 | 28 |
| Trezigo | 98 | 23 |
At GYG the standard build already includes its salsas. The extras that add up are guacamole (530 kJ for 70 g), mild queso (420 kJ) and corn chips on the side. Brown rice instead of white saves about 60 kJ, which is small. Each item page lists the extras GYG publishes, so you can add them up before you order.
